Tom Lehman shot a magnificent 10 under par in the second round of the Invensys Classic in Las Vegas. That, on top of his opening round 63, means Lehman equalled the PGA Tour's 36-hole scoring record, held by Tiger Woods.
Lehman's faultless round left him 19-under-par for the tournament, two shots ahead of challenger Fred Couples, who carded a 64 on the second day. Chris Di Marco was in third spot, having shot 61, the lowest round of the day while John Daly continued his comeback. He is in fourth spot, after shooting a career-best 62.
After his round, Lehman reflected: "There's days when golf seems easy and days when it seems tough. This was an easy day. My good golf is still as good or better than ever. I've just played a lot of lousy rounds to go along with it."
Daly said: "Before this year, it's been a big drought. I'm focused now, loose and playing aggressive like I used to. It's a golf course that's almost perfect for me. Where I'm driving the ball, it's past most of the trouble."
Daly is playing as well as he has at any point in his troubled career, he finished second in the Linde German Masters last weekend and has won on the European Tour already this year. But it was clear what his main ambition is: " "I'd love to win in the States now. I think it will happen, and I'm not saying it in a cocky way. I'm working hard enough for it to happen."
