US Open champion Retief Goosen returns to golfing action at the K-Club tomorrow for the Smurfit European Open. The 32-year-old South African has taken a well-deserved break since his impressive play-off victory over American Mark Brooks a fortnight ago but is ready now to move on in his career and face the next challenge.
However, moving on is easier said than done as most people he has met so since that life-altering weekend only want to talk about the US Open but more interestingly, they want to talk about that missed two-foot putt on the 18th rather than his tournament-winning play-off round.
"I haven't thought about it as much as everybody else has. It was just another three-putt. All right, it was to win the US Open, but if it had happened to me on the 17th it wouldn't have been so bad. I was the unlucky dog to three-putt last but it hasn't affected me as much as other people think it should. Things happen in life and it happened for a reason. You've just got to learn from that," he explained.
