Harrington wins prestigious Golf award

Ireland's Padraig Harrington has been named Asprey and Garrard Golfer of the month for October, ahead of golfing giants Lee Westwood and Miguel Angel Martin. The award comes less than a fortnight after his victory in the BBVA Open Turespana Masters Comunidad de Madrid. The judging panel -comprised of members of the Association of Golf Writers and the Broadcast Media - awarded Harrington the prize in the form of a Stg£1,000 cheque donation to the Golf Foundation.

The judges were also impressed with Harrington's handling of his disqualificaion after a score sheet mix-up may have cost him the Benson and Hedges International Open Championship last May. Harrington said, "I am delighted to receive this honour in a month of so many outstanding achievements on the European Tour. It's nice for all the hard work to be rewarded with my third European Tour title and to be recognised by the members of the Media as the Asprey and Garrard Golfer of the Month."

The award is presented each month to a European Tour Member from January to October for European tour performances and in world-wide competition.
