Golf: Investigation into Payne Stewart plane crash

An investigation is under way in the United States into the plane crash which killed the golfer, Payne Stewart, and four other people. His Lear jet appears to have got into trouble minutes after taking off from Orlando in Florida for Dallas before crashing four hours later in south Dakota after running out of fuel. American air force pilots sent to check on the plane after it failed to answer radio messages, say that its windows appeared to be iced up, suggesting that the cabin had de-pressurised. Aviation experts say the occupants may have lost consciousness long before the plane went down and that it had flown on auto-pilot half way across the United States. President Clinton has led the tributes to the champion golfer who was 42 and married with two children.
