Mountbellew/Moylough 0 – 16 Ballinamore Sean O'Heslin's 2 – 8

Mountbellew/Moylough had to put in a huge second half effort to overcome a determined Ballinamore Sean O'Heslin's outfit in very competitive Connacht quarter-final clash in sunny Carrick-on-Shannon after the Leitrim side had gained a 0-06 interval advantage.

The recently crowned Galway Champions made a bright start with John Daly putting them ahead with a fourth minute point. But Ballinamore hit back three minutes later with a goal that was finished to the net by Niall McGovern after Wayne McKeon hit a free from midfield into the goalmouth.

Barry McHugh answered with a Mountbellew/Moylough ninth-minute pointed free. The Ballinamore men stretched their lead when Shane Moran fired over three minutes later. Points were exchanged by Mountbellew/Moylough's Barry McHugh from a mark conversion and by Ballinamore's Shane Moran by the fifteenth minute.

A Wayne McKeon free conversion sent Ballinamore in leading by 1-04 to 0-03 when the game's first water break was called. After the restart Mountbellew/Moylough reduced the deficit by the twenty-third minute after two free tap overs by Barry McHugh.

O'Heslin's Tom Prior fired home a second goal for the Leitrim men on the twenty-six minute mark. Prior added another point shortly afterwards to put Ballinamore comfortably ahead by 2-05 to 0-05 at half-time. It was right after the restart when Mountbellew/Moylough dug deep and turned the tables on Ballinamore.

The Mountbellew/Moylough men hit seven unanswered points by the forty-second minute to get their noses just in front . In this spell ace Mountbellew/Moylough free taker, Barry McHugh put over two placed balls, while Michael Daly added two points with Leo Donnellan, Mathew Barrett and John Daly chipping in with a point each.

Then a Luke Murphy free tap over for Ballinamore sent the sides in on level terms (2-06 to 0-12) when the game's second water break was signalled. With six minutes left to play in the final quarter a Mountbellew/Moylough surge had gained Galway men a 0-04 advantage after Barry McHugh put over three frees and Eoin Finnerty fired over from play.

Ballinamore rallied in closing minutes of the action when Wayne McKeon converted two frees. But the Leitrim side's challenge fell short as Mountbellew/Moylough held out for the win.
