The death has been announced of the former Dublin footballer and hurler Des 'Snitchy' Ferguson, who was 91 years old.

A member of the St Vincent's club, he won All-Ireland football medals in 1958 and 1963.

Later he moved to Meath and was one of the founding members of the Gaeil Colmcille club, with whom he won two county championships.

Ferguson was also a talented hurler with Dublin, competing in the 1952 and 1961 All-Ireland finals.

His son Terry won two All-Ireland SFC titles in 1987 and '88 with Sean Boylan's Meath. In 1991 he captained Gaeil Colmcille to the Meath SFC title.

Ferguson's funeral takes place this Sunday in Kells.
