Shane Ronayne has stepped down as manager of the Waterford senior footballers after eight months in charge, the county board has confirmed.

The former Tipperary ladies' footballers manager had taken the reins of the Déise in January but departs the role after a campaign which saw Waterford exit the Munster SFC after a 4-18 to 0-12 loss to Limerick in the opening round, while their sole competitive win of the year came against Wexford in Allianz League Division 4 in May.

In a statement, Waterford GAA said: "Shane Ronayne has tonight informed the Waterford County Board that he has decided to step down as Waterford Senior Football Manager.

"Waterford GAA would like to sincerely thank Shane and his management team for their work and commitment to the Waterford Senior Football team over the past twelve months and wish them every success in their future endeavours.

"A process will now be put in place for the appointment of a new Senior Football Team Manager."
