Westmeath have named former Dublin Under-21s boss Joe Fortune as the new manager of their senior hurling team.
He succeeds Shane O'Brien, who resigned in August, less than three weeks after Westmeath's historic Joe McDonagh Cup win. That triumph means the county will play Leinster Senior Championship and Liam MacCarthy Cup hurling for the first time since 2017 next summer.
Wexford native Fortune led the Dubs Under-21s to a Leinster crown in 2016. Two years later, he guided Ballyboden St Enda’s to the Dublin county title.
The Lake County confirmed his appointment on Thursday night, with his backroom team to be announced in the coming week.
