Plans to redevelop facilities on the Kinane Stand at Semple Stadium "will be on the backburner for a few years", according to Tipperary secretary Tim Floyd.

Planning permission for the €9million upgrade was granted last year for the constructing of a corporate area, comprising a new tier under the stand, that would have a capacity of 250.

The county board also revealed that a gym had been designed to be added to the training facilities at nearby Dr Morris Park. As things stand Tipperary have been hiring the gym in the LIT Campus in Thurles.

Tim Floyd told The Examiner that work on Semple Stadium will have to wait.

"It will be on the backburner for a few years," he confirmed.

"We have five years' planning so we will hold off for the moment. What’s more urgent is our plans to extend the dressing rooms in Dr Morris Park. We’re involved in an all-weather pitch over in LIT as well so they are the priorities.

"All three are still in our plans. The development in Dr Morris Park will hopefully go ahead at the end of the year when Munster Council and Croke Park finances are freed up."
