Donal O'Grady, who led Cork to an All-Ireland hurling title in 2004, has joined current manager Kieran Kingston's backroom team ahead of the start of the new season.
O'Grady, who's also had two spells in charge of Limerick in the last decade, is set to be involved in analysis and the coaching of the team, reports the Irish Examiner.
The Rebels last lifted Liam MacCarthy in 2005, winning four Munster SHC titles since then.
"We’re delighted to have Donal join the Cork senior hurling management team," Kingston told the paper.
"He brings a huge amount of winning experience to the group. He is brilliant with players and has worked with his own club in recent years.
"People will know his work as a pundit with television, radio and print, he knows the scene very well, and we feel he is a huge addition to the backroom team and to the playing group as well."
Sports psychologist Cathal Sheridan also comes on to Kingston's backroom team, while Ger Cunningham and Diarmuid O'Sullivan are retained as selectors.
