Steven Poacher has joined Roscommon manager Anthony Cunningham's coaching team for the 2021 season.

The Down native spent three years as team coach of the Carlow footballers, helping them win promotion from Division 4 and reach a Leinster semi-final in 2018.

Since stepping away from his role with Carlow in November 2019, Poacher worked with the Down minors and also coached senior club side Bryansford.

"I am delighted to welcome Steven on board and we look forward to working with him to strengthen our team in 2021," said Cunningham.

Poacher was a key member of former Carlow manager Turlough O'Brien's backroom team

Roscommon will compete in Division 1 this season after finishing top of the second tier in 2020 with five wins from seven games.

The Connacht side have also brought Gary Flannery on board on a games development administrator.

Roscommon said in a statement: "Gary is a sport scientist/strength and conditioning specialist with an in-depth knowledge of exercise physiology, human anatomy, bio-mechanics and athletic performance.

"Roscommon GAA would like to welcome both Steven and Gary and wish them the best of luck."
