Galway ended the reign of holders Kilkenny with a five-point victory in Friday's Leinster U20 HC semi-final at MW Hire O'Moore Park in Portlaoise.

Twelve of Galway's 19 points came from Donal O'Shea - 0-11 from frees.

In an entertaining contest, played on a heavy sod, the gate started with both sides scoring freely and responding in kind to leave it 0-08 each after 25 minutes. The Tribesmen then found some daylight, courtesy of two O'Shea frees and a Sean McDonagh point, to leave them three clear at the break.

Shortly after the resumption, the sides were level again when Eoin Guilfoyle goaled. Like Donal O'Shea, Guilfoyle was also unerring from placed balls, firing over a tally 0-08, and after his green flag he pointed to edge his side in front.

That score, however, prompted a strong Galway response as they outscored their opponents 0-08 to 0-02 to book their place in the final against Dublin on 3 January.
