Nicky Quaid - 8

Three successive clean sheets for Quaid, who produced a smart stop from Stephen Bennett in the dying embers of the first half.

He made four fine saves in the second half too to deny Bennett (twice), Calum Lyons and Dessie Hutchinson as Waterford went for broke.

Quaid's puckouts were also on the money – Limerick worked six scores from 12 of his puckouts during the first half.

Sean Finn - 7

Huge work rate from the corner-back, which was exemplified early in the second half when he sprinted towards the touchline and outmuscled Hutchinson to claim possession.

Dan Morrissey - 8

Read the game superbly from full-back. Morrissey frustrated the Waterford attack, gathering a host of hopeful pucks downfield.

Made a vital interception on 50 minutes as Waterford looked to create another goal chance.

Barry Nash - 7

Mopped up plenty of ball in his own full-back line. Expertly claimed Jamie Barron's long punt downfield on 58 minutes to quickly turn defence into attack, creating a score for Aaron Gillane.

Diarmuid Byrnes - 8

Brilliant in both defence and attack, Byrnes made a crucial block on Stephen Bennett's goal-bound shot during the first half.

Good vision created a point for Gillane and he bagged a deserved score in the final minute.

Declan Hannon - 7

Hannon delivered a captain's performance, powering forward to clip over a point midway through the first half, and always made himself available as a passing option.

Fortunate to escape a yellow card for hauling down Dessie Hutchinson early on, Hannon marshalled a tenacious Limerick defence that gave their opponents no time to breathe.

Kyle Hayes - 8

The sight of the tireless Hayes galloping up the left wing was a regular occurrence and he forced a fine save from Stephen O'Keeffe after 12 minutes.

He didn’t shirk his defensive duties, though, and latched onto a number of breaking balls in front of his full-back line.

Darragh O'Donovan - 7

Worked his socks off around midfield, allowing Waterford players no time on the ball and used possession sensibly.

William O'Donoghue - 7

Popped up for a point on 15 minutes as Limerick threatened to pull away and minutes later his pinpoint pass teed up Gearoid Hegarty.

Was always on hand to help his defence out when required.

Gearóid Hegarty - 10

Simply outstanding. Hegarty scored 0-07 from play in a man-of-the-match performance.

He combined brilliantly with half-forward partner Tom Morrissey to leave Waterford chasing shadows and is surely the frontrunner for Hurler of the Year.

Cian Lynch - 7

Will be disappointed not to have found the net early on, squandering two decent chances, but Lynch still made a major contribution.

A useful option from quick puckouts and showed his strength and power in the face of some robust Waterford defending.

Tom Morrissey - 9

You could tell Morrissey was in the mood when he nailed a point from over his shoulder in the ninth minute.

He was electric alongside Hegarty, popping up all over the place as the half-forward line ran riot.

Aaron Gillane - 8

Any concerns over Gillane's fitness were quickly put to bed when he scored a cracking point from underneath the Cusack Stand.

Enjoyed a great tussle with Conor Prunty and was always out in front looking for possession.

Seamus Flanagan - 7

Always a willing runner, Flanagan won two early balls that came his way and scored a lovely point from the sideline off the latter. Finished with three points from play.

Graeme Mulcahy - 7

The stalwart threw an outrageous pass to put Lynch through on goal in the lead-up to Hayes' early goal chance. Replaced after 49 minutes.

Peter Casey - 7

Proved a handful for Ian Kenny, winning two frees which Gillane converted.

Pat Ryan - 6

Useful cameo from Ryan, who grabbed a late point with the aid of the left post.

David Reidy - 6

Replaced O'Donovan in midfield on the hour mark and provided plenty of energy.

Adrian Breen/Paddy O'Loughlin

Not on for long enough to be rated.

Stephen O'Keeffe - 7

Made an outstanding double save early on to deny Hayes and Lynch.

Went long from puckouts during the first quarter, without much joy, but mixed them up nicely from then on.

Ian Kenny - 5

A frustrating afternoon for Kenny, who delivered a good long pass to tee up Hutchinson for a score on 45 minutes.

However, he conceded two frees in three minutes for fouls on Peter Casey, seeing yellow for the latter, with both converted by Gillane.

Replaced after 55 minutes.

Conor Prunty - 6

Cut out a number of balls into the danger zone. Prunty tried his best to keep Gillane quiet but was unable to curb his influence.

Shane McNulty - 5

Had a good tussle with Seamus Flanagan but it was a tough afternoon for the Waterford full-back line.

Calum Lyons - 6

Was more involved in the second half after switching wings with Kevin Moran and tested Quaid with a shot across goal.

Tadhg de Búrca - 7

Heartbreak for the influential centre-back, who was forced off injured after just 20 minutes after losing his balance and twisting his knee.

Made a vital intervention to deny Lynch a shot at goal during the early exchanges and moments later he expertly dealt with a dangerous dropping ball.

Kevin Moran - 6

Tried to rouse his team-mates in the 45th minute with an inspirational long-range point but couldn't curtail Limerick’s electric wing-forwards.

Jamie Barron - 6

Found space at a premium. Barron was allowed no time on the ball and cut a frustrated figure.

Kieran Bennett - 5

Saw yellow for a clumsy challenge on Tom Morrissey midway through the first half but responded well with a good point under pressure.

Struggled to influence proceedings and was replaced after 40 minutes.

Jack Fagan - 6

Flashed a shot across goal in the first minute as Waterford looked to start brightly. Found himself on the back foot as Limerick's wing-backs went on the rampage.

Neil Montgomery - 6

Played in Fagan for that early goal chance and had a sniff himself later in the first half, but was crowded out by Limerick defenders. Taken off after 45 minutes.

Stephen Bennett - 8

Bennett's frees kept Waterford in the contest and another day he could have had a hat-trick of goals, Quaid equal to all of his efforts.

Finished with ten points to take his tally for this year's championship to 1-55.

Dessie Hutchinson - 6

Took Jack Prendergast's diagonal pass in the sixth minute and sensed a goal chance. However, he failed to spot Montgomery in a better position inside him before being taken out by Hannon.

Austin Gleeson - 8

Flashes of brilliance from Waterford's star man, who was much more involved in the second half.

Scored five points and battled away until the final whistle.

Jack Prendergast - 6

Started encouragingly but was well marshalled by the Limerick defence.

Iarlaith Daly - 6

Had big shoes to fill by replacing De Búrca. Settled into the contest by claiming a high ball under pressure but Waterford never got a handle on the Limerick half-forward line.

Darragh Lyons - 6

Brought on for Kieran Bennett after 40 minutes but didn't make the impact he would have liked.

Conor Gleeson - 6

Replaced Montgomery during the second half with Waterford trailing by seven points but was unable to transform their fortunes.

Patrick Curran - 6

Came on for Moran on 52 minutes but fared no better in trying to contain Limerick's free-scoring forwards.

Shane Fives - 6

Fives replaced Kenny on 55 minutes after the corner-back picked up a yellow card.
