McEntee on beating Dublin - We've a better chance than other Leinster teams

Meath manager Andy McEntee admits that there's no secret formula to beating Dublin but is hoping his side can cause a major upset in Sunday’s Leinster Championship final.

McEntee’s outfit impressed last weekend as five second-half goals helped them to see off the challenge of Kildare and book their place in the final.

Sunday’s clash at Croke Park is a repeat of last year’s final where the Dubs cruised to a 1-17 to 0-04 victory.

Many felt that Meath did not do themselves justice on that day and McEntee is hoping to see his side improve on that display.

"We have a better chance than most of the other teams in Leinster, that’s probably the best way of looking at it," he told RTÉ Sport. "We’re looking forward to it.

"I think it’s important that we back up last year’s final appearance with another one and it’s up to us to perform to our best and see where that takes us.

"I think we’ve definitely improved, playing in Division One is going to bring anyone along. I know results weren’t fantastic but in general performances were decent.

"There’s a lot of games where we could have got something out of that we didn’t. What did we learn? We learnt that we weren’t got enough and we’ve got to get better. I think that’s an on-going process and we’ll have a better idea on Saturday evening where we are."

However when it comes to stopping Dublin, the Meath boss realises the magnitude of the task he faces against a side that are chasing their sixth consecutive All-Ireland title.

"Bigger brains than mine have tried to figure that out for the last five or six years. You’ve got to compete with them and you’ve got to perform to your absolute best and see if that puts you in a position with 10 or 15 minutes to go where you’re in with a shout.

"Dublin have a lot of the natural advantages. They have the experience, they’re used to play in Croke Park and they’re used to playing in Leinster finals.

"We have quite a few fellas where this is their second outing in Croke Park and definitely their first Leinster final."

Rather than worry about Dublin and what they may do, McEntee is more eager to focus on his own side and their abilities.

"There’s a lot of things that probably favour Dublin but this is about us now." he said. "Where we’re concerned, all we can do is concentrate on ourselves and get out performance to be the best is can be.

"This is a very tight group and they’ve worked extremely hard, I’ve never complained about that. We’re representing Meath and no matter who we’re playing, we’re trying to represent our county as best we can.

"By and large over the last couple of years we’ve put in consistently decent performances. Once you keep doing that, you’ve got to hope that results start going your way."
