All-Ireland winner Davy Glennon has declared for the Westmeath hurlers ahead of the resumption of the inter-county season.
Glennon, who was part of the Galway panel that won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 2017, is understood to have switched county allegiances under the parental rule.
He is also involved in a business in the Athlone area.
While it remains unclear whether Glennon will be eligible for the upcoming Joe McDonagh Cup campaign, he looks certain to feature in next year's Allianz League.
There's also an addition to the management team, with Noel Larkin joining as a coach.
Larkin boasts an impressive CV, having led Portumna to the 2014 All-Ireland club title.
He was also trainer of Roscommon when they won the 2015 Nicky Rackard Cup and was part of Micheál Donoghue's backroom team in Galway when the Tribesmen won their first All-Ireland title for 29 years in 2017.
Westmeath begin their Joe McDonagh Cup campaign against Antrim on 25 October.
They defeated Carlow to retain their Division 1 league status for 2021 last March, in one of the final games to be played before the coronavirus shutdown.
Niall O'Brien has returned from Dubai and has rejoined the panel on the back of some outstanding performances in the recent Westmeath SHC which concluded with Clonkill defeating Castletown-Geoghegan.
Clonkill were captained by current Westmeath selector and former county star Brendan Murtagh.
