Two clubs in Skerries have postponed all activity as a precautionary measure after fears spread of a potential surge in cases of Covid-19.
No positive cases have been directly linked to Skerries Harps GAA club or to Skerries Town FC.
However, a video which circulated on social media over the weekend raised concerns locally that there could be several potential close contacts to a confirmed Covid-19 case in the area.
As a result, both clubs have temporarily shut down.
"Skerries Harps have made the conscious decision to cease, with immediate effect, all club activity until further notice," the GAA club said in a statement posted to its Facebook page.
"On Saturday afternoon the club became aware of a number of potential close contacts to a confirmed Covid-19 case in the town.
"On Saturday evening the decision was made to cancel an adult camogie training session scheduled for Sunday morning. As Sunday progressed the club became aware of further potential close contacts in the adult ladies football/camogie sections, leading us to cancel activities in both sections immediately.
"On Monday 31st August, the Club Executive met virtually and took the decision to close all sections of the club pending the Covid-19 test results in the town.
"While this is a difficult decision, we believe it is in the interests of our members, our players and the Skerries community as a whole.
"Separately, Skerries Harps are aware of a social media video that went viral on Sunday night.
"The club does not condone the content of this video. The club have followed all HSE, Government and GAA guidelines in the past few days and will continue to do so in the future."
Skerries Town also released a statement, which read: "In light recent events in Skerries, we've decided [to] postpone all club activities until further information is made available for the club to further assess.
"We'll update you as soon as possible. Please note this is a precautionary measure. There are no suspected Covid-19 cases in the club."
Both clubs have large juvenile sections, with Harps catering for boys and girls aged five years and up. On Saturday their senior men's football team were beaten by St Jude's at Parnell Park in the Dublin SFC.
Skerries Town also cater for boys and girls, and field two men's teams in the Leinster Senior League.
