Dr Crokes needed extra-time to get past a spirited Austin Stacks 3-19 to 2-17 in Tralee and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Kerry SFC on Friday night.
Crokes had been cruising. They had a five-point lead as the clock ticked into injury-time, but a scrappy Kieran Donaghy goal was followed by two Sean Quilter points to tie the scores at 2-12 apiece.
Crokes were rattled, but they eventually regained their composure as a penalty in the second half of extra-time from the brilliant Tony Brosnan, who finished with a haul of 2-10, gave them the breathing room to see it out.
In the Wexford SFC, Castletown Liam Mellows battled past Kilanerin 0-10 to 0-07, while Starlights prevailed against Fethard 2-10 to 1-09.
In Longford Colmcille saw off Rathcline 2-10 to 0-11 to progress to the SFC quarters, while in the Down SFC Rostrevor beat Bredagh 0-12 to 0-8.
Reigning Galway SHC champions St Thomas demolished Portumna 4-38 to 0-15, Clarinbridge defeated Turloughmore by 0-23 to 0-16, and Fr Casey's beat Na Piarsaigh 1-13 to 1-11 in their Limerick SHC showdown.
