Jackie Tyrrell set for bold new frontier as a forward for James Stephens' juniors

When Jackie Tyrrell next takes to the field, his world will be turned somewhat upside down.

Throughout the former Kilkenny All-Ireland winner's career, opposition goalkeepers have tended to be mere dots in the distance and it has been up to him to get tight to forwards trying to make their way beyond him, rather than the other way round.

But as the 38-year-old resumes action for his club James Stephens' junior hurling set-up, things will be a little bit different.

Rather than his customary stomping ground in the back-line, the former inter-county defensive great will have to learn a few new tricks as he told the RTÉ GAA Podcast.

"I don't know what number I'll be wearing but I'll probably be on the edge of the square so it'll be something new for me and I'm looking forward to it," he quipped of the vertigo of migrating to the forwards in his next club game, adding that he hopes that the opposing full-back will be of a 'similar vintage' to his own.

"I've never played in the forwards before. We played a challenge match recently and I ended up there so I believe I'll be thrown up there with the old experience card being played because there are a lot of young lads up there."
