The GAA has confirmed it will offer partial refunds or discounts for next year to season ticket holders if the 2020 inter-county season can not be completed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Association was forced to issue a statement after it was highlighted that it had changed the terms and conditions of season tickets last month, specifying no refunds in the event that competitions were cancelled due to a pandemic or similar "circumstances outside of the control of the GAA".

The GAA insisted today that it was within its rights to alter T&Cs and was simply "seeking to provide greater clarity" rather than attempting to "step back from its obligations".

The €120 annual season ticket entitles the holder to attend all of a chosen county's football and hurling league games, their first Championship game, and the All-Ireland club finals, as well as the option to purchase further Championship tickets.

A statement from the Association today reiterated its determination to finish the season at some point but that if that doesn't prove possible, refunds based on the number of games unplayed will be issued.

The full statement from the GAA ticket office is as follows:

These are truly exceptional times for all aspects of society along with the GAA and its members.

We are still hopeful of completing the 2020 inter-county and club season over the course of the current year. This will include championship and some of the remaining league fixtures.

If this unfortunately does not prove to be possible due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, we will offer all 2020 Season Ticket holders a discount on their 2021 Season Ticket, or alternatively a partial refund of their 2020 Season Ticket. All refund decisions will be dependent on how the remainder of the 2020 Season can be completed.

With reference to the updated terms and conditions applicable to the GAA Season Ticket, this was seeking to provide greater clarity to the existing terms and conditions for our season ticket holders and not an attempt by the GAA to step back from its obligations in dealing with the matter at hand.

The re-commencement of all GAA fixtures are fully dependant on Government directives and HSE and WHO best practice health office. Once we have more information available regarding the resumption or otherwise of GAA fixtures we will be in contact with all Season Ticket holders.
