It will be remembered as one of the greatest Munster finals of all time as Waterford edged Cork to secure the title at Semple Stadium.
In a highly charged affair, Déise hero, John Mullane was sent off in the 38th minute, however, his side held on to secure the narrowest of victories, beating the Rebels 3-16 to 1-21.
After the game, Mullane spoke to RTE Sport's Tony O'Donoghue in what turned out to be an iconic interview at a time when Waterford were one of the best side's in the country.
Darren Frehill has been looking back at that famous occasion.
Each week on RTÉ Radio 1's Morning Ireland, Darren will be delving into the archives to relive the nation's favourite sporting memories.
