Wicklow had to go to the well to edge past Mayo 1-16 to 1-13 at the Connacht Centre of Excellence in In the Division 2A of the Allianz Hurling League.
The visitors were 1-09 to 0-06 ahead at half-time, Enda Donohoe's goal giving them a decent cushion heading into the second period.
Mayo rallied whoever, hitting the net themselves through a penalty and getting to within two points of the Garden County, who lost Jack Doyle to a red card in the closing stages.
The 14 men closed it out though to take home a hard-earned two points.
The other game in Division 2A, Offaly v Antrim at O'Connor Park, was postponed due to Storm Dennis.
In Division 2B Roscommon defeated London by 0-13 to 0-10 at Dr Hyde Park.
The division's other fixture, Derry v Kildare, was called off yesterday. That game was duie to throw in at Owenbeg and will be refixed by the CC in the next few days.
