A strong first-half showing laid the foundation for Paul Galvin's first win in charge of Wexford in Division 4 as they defeated Carlow 2-10 to 1-06 at a windy Wexford Park.

The home side had the wind at their backs but 10 minutes had elapsed before the first score of the game was registered courtesy of James Stafford.

Mark Rossiter doubled their lead and the Yellowbellies struck for a crucial score in the 19th minute when Ben Brosnan finished off a fine team move to raise a green flag.

Indeed the ace forward added the next two points, one from play and another from a free as Carlow struggled to keep in touch.

Just after the half-hour mark the gap was stretched further when Jonathan Bealin finished off another flowing move and the sides retired to the dressing room with Wexford enjoying a commanding 10-point cushion, 2-06 to 0-02.

The visitors made the perfect start upon the resumption and within two minutes had scored 1-01, with John Murphy converting from the penalty spot.

A couple of Darragh Foley frees reduced the margin to four points before Wexford goalkeeper Ivan Mangan slotted over a free in the 64th minute before Rossiter drove over the insurance point.
