Munster SHL round 3

Limerick progressed to the Munster hurling league final with an impressive 1-27 to 1-19 win over Clare in Sixmilebridge.

The reigning Munster champions shot out of the blocks at the East Clare venue, racking up 0-11 to the Banner's 0-03 in the opening quarter.

Clare rallied and the gap was narrowed to four at the break. They failed to make any further inroads early in the second period however and David Reidy's 57th-minute goal effectively settled the game for the visitors.

Aron Shanagher's spectacular late goal was only a consolation as Brian Lohan's men succumbed to an eight point loss.

The Treaty County will face Cork, who topped a group containing Waterford and Kerry, in next Sunday's decider.

In what was a dead rubber, Waterford had little difficulty in dismissing the challenge of Kerry at Austin Stack Park.

Calum Lyons, Stephen Bennett, Darragh Lyons and Dessie Hutchinson plundered the goals as they ran out easy 4-23 to 1-10 winners in Tralee.

Walsh Cup

A first-half goal blitz set Dublin on their way to victory over Carlow in the Walsh Cup.

Eamonn Dillon hit the net twice in the opening 11 minutes and though Carlow hit eight unanswered points to drag themselves back into contention, Donal Burke added a third shortly before half-time for a 3-08 to 0-12 interval lead.

The second half was a less dramatic affair as the Dubs ran out 3-20 to 0-18 winners.

In the day's other round-robin tie, Westmeath beat Laois by eight points in Borris in Ossory.

Shane O'Brien's team led 1-08 to 0-07 at the break with Joey Boyle's goal on the stroke of half-time the key score.

They stretched out their lead early in the second half, leading by seven at one stage until Eoin Gaughan's 57th-minute goal gave Laois a glimmer. However, Darragh Clinton netted to put the result beyond doubt and Westmeath ran out comfortable 2-17 to 1-12 winners.

Dublin, Laois and Westmeath all have four points ahead of the final group game in Parnell Park on Wednesday between the Dubs and Laois. Carlow are eliminated after losing all three of their ties.

As long as Dublin avoid a heavy defeat (12+ points) they will advance to play holders Galway in the semi-finals next Sunday when Kilkenny also face Wexford.
