Monaghan 1-17 Derry 0-14
Séamus McEnaney's second spell in charge of Monaghan got off to a winning start with a Dr McKenna Cup victory over Derry in their Section A encounter in Inniskeen.
Aaron Mulligan's goal in the ninth minute had the hosts up 1-03 to no score but Ryan Bell’s accuracy from frees had Derry ahead by a point at the break.
Substitute Jack McCarron’s score in the 57th minute restored the Farney lead and they tacked on six unanswered points in the last 10 minutes.

Down overcame a slow start against Fermanagh to push on and claim the Section B points in Brewster Park.
The sides were level at a point apiece after 28 minutes and the visitors led by 0-04 to 0-03 at half-time.
Paddy Tally's side stayed in front until the end, with a late goal from Liam Kerr embellishing the result.
Cavan 1-13 Armagh 2-17

Armagh emerged with a comprehensive seven-point win over Cavan at Breffni Park to begin their Section C campaign on a positive note.
A tenth-minute penalty by Martin Reilly had given the hosts a lead but Kieran McGeeney's side soon found the front and were 11 points up at the start of the second half when Conor Turbit grabbed his second goal.
Tyrone are the next opponents for both teams, on Sunday and Wednesday week respectively.
