Limerick inflicted an early season defeat upon an inexperienced Tipperary side as the last two All-Ireland champions clashed in a Co-op Superstores Munster Hurling League opener at the LIT Gaelic Grounds.

Starting just two players from their last Championship outing of the summer, John Kiely's men won out 2-22 to 1-17 against a Premier side that featured Michael Breen, John McGrath and Jason Forde.

Limerick took a 1-10 to 0-09 lead into the break, before pushing on in the second-half.

Na Piarsaigh's Adrian Breen, making a first intercounty appearance in more than four years, hit 1-05 from play, while Forde and John McGrath were top scorers for Tipperary.
