Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton hinted that he may hang up his boots before next season, indicating that a couple of "niggly injuries" may force him out of the inter-county scene.

After being named as Footballer of the Year at the GAA GPA PwC All-Star awards, the 37-year-old was asked if he planned to return for another season as Dublin bid for their sixth All-Ireland title in a row.

"Emmm, I don't know," he told RTÉ Sport's Joanne Cantwell.

"Obviously, your heart...you love playing the game, you want to come back, you'll do anything to play.

"The mind, the same thing, but it's probably the body.

"I probably need to sit down with the physios and the doctors and see if I can get through another year, to be honest.

"I've a couple of niggly injuries but you just don't know.

"There's a small chance all right, yeah, yeah."

Cluxton, who won his sixth All-Star, is the first goalkeeper since Offaly's Martin Furlong in 1982 to pick up the top award.

The school teacher expanded on the amount of time taken up perfecting his game.

He said: "A typical day this year would have been home from school about 3.50pm, leave for training at 4.40pm for training at 7pm.

"Get there at five o’clock go, out there with my goalkeeping coach, Josh [Moran]. Go out from 6-7 and do our stuff. Go back in for a team meeting and then start training with the team."
