And so at the third time of asking, Lámh Dhearg, captained by Belfast Lord Mayor John Finucane got the better of Portglenone to qualify for the Antrim senior football final.

Lámh Dhearg ran out 2-08 to 0-09 winners in Ballymena on Monday evening, with Paddy Cunningham bagging 2-04 in a man of the match performance. And so this trilogy has come to an end, with no doubt one of the highlights being the call made by the Antrim chairman Ciaran McCavana to halt the free-kicks shoot out in game number two.

Cargin will now face Lámh Dhearg in the county decider on Sunday next. Speaking to Jerome Quinn Media, John Finucane is excited about leading his side out in the final.

"County final day is always a special day, I'll be very proud," he said.

'I’ll make sure the diary is clear for Sunday," he jokingly added.

"Football hasn’t been hit too hard by the Mayor duties and the lads keep me well-grounded, you get plenty of stick."
