It has been confirmed that Liam Cahill will be in charge of Waterford's senior hurlers for the 2020 season.

The Waterford County Board has ended weeks of speculation by announcing on Monday night that the former Tipperary Under-20 boss would be taking over as manager.

"Waterford GAA are happy to announce Liam Cahill as our inter-county senbior hurling manager with Michael Bevans as his coach for the 2020/2021 season. Remaining management team to follow," they said in a brief statement released online.

Cahill led Tipp to last year’s All-Ireland Under-21 title, the last at the grade, and this year’s Under-20 crown. He also managed the Premier County to the 2016 All-Ireland in a hugely successful four years in charge of underage teams.

He takes over from Páraic Fanning, who endured a single tough season as manager having succeeded Derek McGrath, who had led the Deise to the 2017 All-Ireland final.
