Ballycran retained their Down senior hurling title with a seven-point win over Portaferry in Ballygalget.

The final was a repeat of last year's decider, which Ballycran edged by two points. This time around, they have seven points to spare in the end though they were hit with an early sucker punch with Brendan Coleman's goal in the opening minute.

Things looked bleaker still for the champions when Colum McManus was issued with a straight red. However, they gradually got a hang of the game, Stuart Martin lashing home a goal.

And soon they were back on terms numerically as Portaferry's Connor O'Prey was sent off after receiving two yellows.

Ballycran led by four points at the break and were never reeled in, eventually winning by seven to claim their 25th Down senior hurling title.
