Rory Gallagher has been appointed as manager of the Derry senior footballers.

Gallagher stepped down as Fermanagh boss in July.

His management team includes All-Ireland club winner and former Derry All Star footballer Enda Muldoon, alongside Ciaran Meenagh.

In Gallagher's two seasons in charge the Erne County reached an Ulster final, their first in ten years, and earned promotion from Division 3.

Gallagher takes over from Damian McErlain, who had spent two years in charge. Derry won promotion from Division 4 of the Allianz League last season.

Elsewhere, as expected, Jack O'Connor was ratified as Kildare boss on a three-year-deal this evening. The former Kerry supremo added Ross Glavin and Tom Cribben  as selectors.

Meanwhile, Colm Collins has extended his tenure with Clare footballers for a seventh season.
