Fears are mounting in Donegal that Patrick McBrearty may miss Saturday's crunch Super 8s game with Mayo in Castlebar due to injury.

News has emerged that the Kilcar attacker has a hamstring problem and could be a doubt for the winner-takes-all quarter-final at Elverys MacHale Park.

Donegal have won one and drawn one of their games so far, against Meath and Kerry respectively, leaving their All-Ireland final hopes finely poised ahead of the weekend.

Mayo lost heavily to Kerry, but bounced back to beat Meath meaning that a win would send them through to the last four. A win or a draw would be good enough for the Ulster champions.

McBrearty has been playing his way back into form on his return from a serious knee injury suffered last year and he is a key player in manager Declan Bonner's attacking plans.
