Malachy O'Rourke has stepped down as Monaghan manager following their championship exit at the hands of Armagh.

Last year’s All-Ireland semi-finalists opened their provincial account with defeat to Cavan and today were defeated 2-17 to 1-12 in Clones by Armagh in the second round of the All-Ireland qualifiers and O’Rourke announced his decision immediately after the match.

O'Rourke took over as manager in 2012 following the resignation of Eamonn McEneaney and led the county to two Ulster titles and were edged out by provincial rivals Tyrone in last year’s All-Ireland semi-final by a point.
