Derry ended Leitrim's winning run in the Allianz League Division 4 campaign following a seven-point victory at home on Saturday.
Both sides went into this game without a defeat and with promotion to Division 3 secured, but it was Derry who came out on top in Celtic Park.
Shane McGuigan top-scored for the Ulster side with 2-05 while Darragh Rooney hit three points from play for the visitors.
The sides will be reunited for another clash in the Division 4 final in two weeks' time.
Meanwhile, third-placed Waterford also picked up a win after they scored an emphatic victory against London to pick up their third win of the campaign.
Wexford also won their third Division 4 game of 2019 when they edged out Limerick by a point, with Jonathan Bealin top-scoring with 0-05.
Wicklow slumped to their fourth defeat of the campaign on the back of a 11-point loss to Antrim in Belfast. Matthew Fitzpatrick bagged a brace of goals for the home side to steer them to a comfortable win.
