Leitrim made it four wins from four to move one step closer to promotion from Allianz Football League Division 4 thanks to Gary Plunkett’s late, late winner against Limerick.
The scores were deadlocked at 0-11 apiece deep into stoppage time at Kilmallock when Plunkett fired over. The home side had time to launch one more attack, but they couldn’t find the equaliser.
Leitirm have a 100% winning record in the League, something only Mayo, Kerry and Derry, who have so far all only played three games of their campaign, can boast.
Terry Hyland’s side also have the best points difference record in the League and they are now on the verge of a move up to Division 3.
The visitors started the sharper and opened up a 0-03 to 0-02 lead after 25 minutes, but Limerick eventually got motoring and led by two the break, 0-07 to 0-05.
Leitrim turned things around again and led 0-11 to 0-09 around the hour mark, only for the home side to chip away at that advantage and eventually level through Darragh Treacy after 64 minutes.
In the ten minutes that was played after this both teams had chances to nudge ahead, with Plunkett finally pushing Leitirm’s noses in front in stoppage time and they managed to hold out until the end.
