Sligo manager Paul Taylor has said he was disappointed by the appointment of a referee from Armagh for the Allianz Football League match with Down last week and described the officiating as "shocking".

Down scored an injury-time goal to send the Yeats County to a second defeat of the league campaign.

Taylor was critical of Padraig Hughes and said that he would "question a lot of the referee’s decisions".

"We had momentum at times when he pulled the game back," Taylor told the Sligo Champion.

"He’s supposed to be a Division 1 referee and he’s an Armagh referee, which I didn’t make any comment on before the game. But it’s a bit close to home for Down. I’m disappointed with that.

"He’s going to know their players. But it’s not just that the standard of refereeing was shocking. I’ll be honest and I don’t want to be giving out about referees but it’s not just about where he is from, the standard was terrible.

"That bit of luck sometimes goes your way and I genuinely would have to question a lot of the referee’s decisions."
