Laois began their Allianz League Division 3 campaign with a six-point win over Paddy Tally's Down in Newry.
Playing with the breeze, the Ulster side were 0-09 to 0-05 ahead at the break, but that lead was wiped out through scores from Laois sub Donie Kingston and Evan O'Carroll.
The midlanders then goaled through Evan O'Carroll, but Donal O'Hare subsequently raised a green flag to leave just a point between the sides.
Paul Cahillane then got the vital goal to give Laois breathing space and they eventually ran out six-point winners - 2-15 to 1-12.
In Division 4, a late free, converted by goalkeeper Mark Jackson, saw Wicklow edge out Waterford by 1-07 to 0-09 at Fraher Field.
A one point, the home side lead 0-07 to 0-01, as they made full use of the wind advantage.
1-01 from Patrick O'Connor was the precursor for Jackson to nail his 35-metre free.
