Seamus Callanan has been named captain of the Tipperary hurlers for 2019, while Noel McGrath will act as vice-captain.

Callanan has been playing for the Tipp senior outfit for over a decade. He takes over the role from Padraic Maher.

The 30-year-old full forward won All-Ireland titles with the Premier county in 2010 and 2016, scoring nine of his 13 points from play in a man-of-the-match performance against Kilkenny three years ago.

A statement from Tipperary read: "We wish to announce that the Tipperary senior hurling captain for 2019 is Seamus Callanan (Drom & Inch) and vice captain is Noel McGrath (Loughmore-Castleiney)."

Tipp start their Allianz Hurling League Division 1A campaign this Saturday in a meeting with Clare at Semple Stadium.
