Dublin 2-21 Carlow 1-16
Mattie Kenny's tenure as Dublin senior hurling manager got off to a winning start with an eight-point win over Carlow in the opening round of the Walsh Cup at Netwatch Dr Cullen Park.
In what was an enjoyable contest played in wet conditions, the visitors held sway at the break 1-08 to 0-09, with Eamonn Dillon finding the net before the quarter hour.
An early goal from Ted Joyce on the resumption and a point from the free-scoring Martin Kavanagh had the hosts in front.
The Dubs, however, hit back courtesy of white flags from John Hetherton (free), only for Caolan Conway to restore Carlow's lead.
That was as good as it got for the latter as Fintan McGibb fired home Dublin's second goal.
Points from Donal Burke, McGibb, Sean Moran and Hetherton (0-10) put the seal on the victory.
