Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes has rubbished rumours that the county's All-Ireland winning squad each received a €20,000 win bonus from businessman JP McManus following their All-Ireland final victory over Galway.
The Kildimo native, who was named GAA/GPA Player of the All-Ireland final, said the idea of bonuses for the winning players was just "wishful thinking".
"I wish that was the case, apparently we were getting 20 grand into our bank accounts as well," said Hayes, speaking to The Examiner.
"There were rumours going around and it never happened and it never will but it’s funny to see the different stories coming back.
"I wish we were that well looked after. It’s mad (the rumours) and the stories add tales as they go on. It’s not true at all but I wish it was."
Earlier this week, Limerick sponsor JP McManus made a donation of one hundred thousand euro to every county board in the country.
