John Hynes has stepped down from his position as full-time county secetary of the Galway County Board, stating personal reasons for his departure. Hynes has been in the full-time, paid position, since 2012.

His departure comes with the imminent publication of a report compiled by a sub-committee of the Galway County Board, on the findings of an internal audit they conducted on the county board's finances.

John Hynes confirmed to RTÉ on Tuesday, 18 September, that the internal audit report had been completed, and that he hoped the committee would be in a position to present it to delegates at the next county board meeting, possibly within two weeks.
