John Maughan has been chosen to manage the Offaly footballers following the resignation of Paul Rouse.

A committee formed to select the new boss – which included Tommy Byrne, Pauric Pierce, Vinny Claffey and Eddie Fleming – have opted for the former Mayo manager.

Maughan has also been in charge of the Clare, Roscommon and Fermanagh senior football teams.

Rouse came in when Stephen Wallace departed after a Leinster championship defeat to Wicklow.

They recovered in the qualifiers with a win over Antrim before being beaten by Clare.
