The Connacht Council has agreed to allow Dr Hyde Park to host the provincial final between Roscommon and Galway subject to a list of conditions.

The Rossies beat Leitrim last weekend to make the decider for the third year on the bounce, and Galway's hammering of Sligo in the other last-four showdown gives Kevin Walsh's men the chance to gain revenge after they lost 2-15 to 0-12 to Kevin McStay's team a year ago.

Dr Hyde Park was due to host the showpiece but there were concerns - mainly around ticket-scanning and exiting - that the venue would not be deemed suitable.

Now, a compromise has seemingly been reached.

"The Connacht GAA Football Championship finals, senior and U20, scheduled for Sunday 17 June 2018 will take place in Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon," a Connacht Council statement read.

"This decision was made following discussion between the Connacht GAA Council and Roscommon County Board officers and in consultation with the National Infrastructure and the National Health & Safety Committee.

"Making this decision Connacht Council recognised the financial constraints of Roscommon County Board and agreement was made to hold the game in Roscommon subject to a number of conditions."

Those conditions include:

  • Confining the capacity to 18,870
  • No tickets being available for sale on the day
  • Roscommon covering the cost of a temporary scanning system
  • CCTV being in place

Connacht Council also stressed that Dr Hyde Park will not be considered for future provincial finals until a new entrance is completed in front of the terrace on the Athlone Road side of the ground, permanent metered turnstiles are installed, dressing rooms are built to modern standards, and all roadways behind the stand are tarred.

Dr Hyde Park last hosted the Connacht SFC final in 2015, when Mayo annihilated Sligo 6-25 to 2-11.
