Christy Ring Cup, round 2

Derry stormed to victory against Armagh with a powerful second-half display after trailing four points at the break.

A Stephen Renaghan goal gave Armagh the early advantage, with his strike edging them into a three-point lead inside the opening 10 minutes of the first half.

The Orchard County looked to be pulling away with further points, but Derry responded with a goal of their own later in the first half through an effort from Mehaul McGrath, which kept them in touch.

The sides exchanged points up to the half-time whistle, with Armagh holding a 1-12 1-08 lead.

Derry made the brighter start to the second half by hitting seven points without reply to put them three in front.

Renaghan appeared to steady things for Armagh with a point shortly after but Derry found the net a second time courtesy of Naoise Waldron, which allowed them to establish a firm grip of the tie which they continued to build on until the final whistle, coming away with a 19-point win.

A brace of goals proved to be decisive for Kildare in their narrow victory over Mayo.

After slipping into a six-point deficit, Kildare recovered to stay within two points of the hosts at half-time.

The first of their two goals came seven minutes after the restart to give them a two-point advantage. And with the game still in the balance at the death, Kildare found the net a second time to ensure a two-point win.

Roscommon and Wicklow played out a closely-fought encounter in their clash, but it was the latter who prevailed in the end.

There was little to separate the sides in the early stages of the first half until a penalty from Andy O'Brien edged Wicklow into the lead.

But the visitors were dealt a blow after the restart when they lost O'Brien to a sending off with a second yellow card.

They came through that setback however, to hit the decisive score in the final 10 minutes of normal time courtesy of a goal from Danny Staunton.

Warwickshire were four-point winners at the end of a even contest against Monaghan in Birmingham.

The home side opened up a six-point lead and looked to be in control when they hit the first of the game's four goals.

But Monaghan rallied with two goals of their own before half-time to leave two points between the sides.

The Ulster side levelled proceedings in the second half with a third goal and the remaining stages of the affair were tight with just two points separating the sides in the final minutes.

Warwickshire however, hit two late points to secure victory.

Longford encountered little trouble in accounting for Louth at home. They were 10 points clear at the start of the second half, and continued to hold a strong grip of proceedings before finishing as seven-point winners.

Similarly, Donegal also clinched an easy win when they welcomed Leitrim to Letterkenny. They were 14 points in front at half-time and despite conceding two goals, they also found the net twice throughout the game and came through as heavy victors.

Lory Meagher

After trailing by four points to Cavan at half-time, Fermanagh produced an encouraging display in the second period, including a goal from Ciaran Rafferty to earn a draw.

Meanwhile, Sligo put four goals past Lancashire but they came away from their trip to Manchester with just a one-point win in the end.
