Monaghan forward Paul Finlay has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

The forward won the Anglo-Celt Cup twice - in 2013 and 2015 - during a 14-year career with the Farney Army.

Making his debut in 2003, Finlay came out on the losing side in three provincial finals, losing to Tyrone in 2007 and 2010 and to Donegal in 2014.

Finlay retires as Monaghan's leading senior point scorer, having amassed a total of 5-548 in 168 appearances for the county.

He won three National Football League titles, picking up a Divison 2 title in 2005 before being part of the Monaghan side that won Divisions 3 and 2 in successive years in 2013 and 2014.

He also captained his club side, Ballybay, to a Monaghan SFC title in 2012.

Finlay is the second long-serving Monaghan player to retire this year, following the retirement of influential midfielder Dick Clerkin earlier this month.
