Former Derry dual player and an All-Ireland winner Colm McGurk has been appointed as the county's senior hurling manager.

McGurk played both hurling and football for Derry during a distinguished county career and was a member of the All Ireland winning panel of 1993.

He succeeds Tom McLean who stepped down after two years in charge and Christy Ring success in 2015.

McGurk won an All Ireland club medal with Lavey in 1991 as well as 12 county titles and claimed an Ulster title with Derry in 2000.

“Colm was a dual player who has represented his club and county in both hurling and football at the very highest level and is someone who brings a wealth of knowledge of the game of hurling,” the County Board’s statement read.

“We are confident that Colm and his management team can help usher in a positive new chapter for Derry hurling, building on the excellent work at grassroots level within our clubs.”
