Mullinalaghta (Longford) 1-17 Stradbally (Laois) 2-09

Surprise Laois champions Stradbally were left to rue a red card early in the second half as Mullinalaghta surged clear to record a 1-17 to 2-09 victory at Pearse Park.

Mullinalaghta, county champions for the first time 66 years, raced into a 0-04 to 0-00 lead inside 10 minutes, and restored that four-point advantage when Aidan McElligott found the net after 21 minutes.

Two quick goals turned the game on its head before the break, the latter a penalty from Cobh Ramblers man Gary Comerford that saw Stradbally lead by two, 2-06 to 1-07.

But the Laois side went down to 14 men just four minutes after the restart when Darren Maher saw red following an incident with James McGivney.

From there it was one-way traffic as Mullinalaghta kicked on with points from Shane Mulligan, McElligott brothers Donie and Aidan and James McGivney helping the Longford men to a five-point success.
