Ireland can have no complaints after they were well beaten by Scotland in the annual Hurling-Shinty international at Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday.
Ireland dominated this annual fixture for years, but now the men from the Scottish Highlands are on top.
Clare’s David Reidy had the ball in the net for the visitors early in the second half, but it was ruled out for an offside offence, this code’s equivalent to a square ball.
If it had stood it could have given Ireland the impetus to get into this game, but in truth Scotland were the better team.
They defended well and their pressure helped to contribute to Ireland’s high wides tally. The Scots only scored once from open play, but Kevin Bartless kept the scoreboard ticking over with his accuracy from place balls.
They led by 0-10 to 0-03 at the break and, Reidy’s disallowed goal aside, didn’t give Ireland a chance to get back into this contest.
Ireland could have lost by more, but captain and goalkeeper Eoin Reilly was in form between the posts and he pulled off a number of impressive saves.
