Kerry star Donaghy likely to continue 'if body is able'

Kieran Donaghy will return for Kerry next year if he feels he can contribute to the Kingdom’s cause.

The 33-year-old has been prominent for Kerry over the last three years as they claimed one All-Ireland title, in 2014, and fell to final and semi-final losses in the last two seasons to eventual champions Dublin.

But in the wake of two disappointing defeats, questions were asked about the future of a number of Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s panel.

Defender Marc Ó Sé announced his retirement two weeks ago, while Colm Cooper has indicated that he will line out next year.

And now Donaghy has hinted that as long as his condition allows, he’ll give it another shot.

“I’d love to [wear the jersey],” the four-time Sam Maguire winner said on RTÉ's Late Late Show.

“If the body is good to go, if the body is able if I’m able to contribute to the team in a proper way that’ll be a big factor in me going back.

“If I feel the body isn’t right, Croke Park is no place for an old man, fellows that are getting older. It’s a young buck's game now.

“I played 11 games consecutive games last year for Kerry, out in the middle of the field, I was moving great.

“If I got something similar again I’d definitely have to think long and hard about it.”

Kerry will play Donegal in the first round of the Allianz League in February, and will meet the winners of Limerick or Clare in the Munster SFC semi-final.
