Seamus Callanan from Tipperary and Mayo’s Paddy Durcan have been named GAA/GPA Opel Player of the Month Award winners for September.
Callanan got the nod in hurling following his incredible scoring return in Tipp’s All-Ireland final win over Kilkenny last month when he helped himself to 0-13, nine from play, in a man of the match display.
Wing-back Durcan is the football winner, with both the drawn and replayed All-Ireland finals against Dublin taken into account, even though the rematch was on the first day of October.
The 21-year-old could hardly have done any more for Mayo, scoring 0-3 from defence across the two games as Dublin eventually lifted the Sam Maguire following two epic encounters.

Drom and Inch’s Callanan is the favourite to be named Hurler of the Year while Durcan will be in the running for an All Star, though competition in the half-back line is particularly fierce this year.
Each month between May and October, a footballer and hurler are rewarded for their performances in the provincial and All-Ireland Championships.
Players are short-listed by the All Star Steering Committee and the winners are selected by the GPA’s playing membership. Each winner receives €1,000 and a trophy.
