Davy Fitzgerald, who stepped down as manager of Clare hurlers just two over weeks ago, has been linked to the Wexford position.
Reports claim that Fitzgerald met with Wexford officials yesterday and he may even be ratified as early as tonight.
Current manager Liam Dunne has completed a five-year term and, despite being interviewed for the position last week, is understood not to be in the running.
Wexford were beaten in the All-Ireland quarter-finals by Waterford in July.
